Dr. Stephen Pu led the audience around the world in a musical journey, touching down on most continents.  From the gypsy songs by Brahms to contemporary “Africa” made popular by Toto; with rarely heard music of Asia, the rhythmic “Bim Bom” of Brazil, and excerpts from “Anastasia,” the concert confirmed the bond of music shared throughout the globe.

Three contemporary composers formed a concert devoted to peace, the dramatic “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, the mesmerizing “Agnus Dei” by Samuel Barber, and local composer Nick Strimple’s optimistic “Psalm 133.”

The singers of the HMC just couldn’t wait to take the audience on a “Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas,” a humorous and educational piece.  “Sim Shalom” (Grant us Peace) by local composer Michelle Green Willner, “White Winter Hymnal,” Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” were also part of the concert.  Festive!

A delightful exploration of creativity and wonder, with the Premiere of Stephen Pu's title song, "Out of the Box;" from the theme of the Mario Bros. video game, to "Baba Yetu" sung in Swahili, through "Alleluia" and the inspiring "O Magnum Mysterium," all the way to John Lennon's "Imagine."
