Christian Campos

The Hollywood Master Chorale is delighted to introduce our guest Artistic Director, Los Angeles native, Christian Campos. Currently he is the managing Artistic Director of the Horizon Music Group. In five seasons, Mr. Campos has led over thirty choral and instrumental concerts with the group, including collaborations with the Cincinnati Boychoir (Bach cantatas) and Bach Collegium San Diego (St. John Passion).

With the company, Mr. Campos has performed at the Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Whittier College Bach Festivals. His conducting style has been described as “expressive, varied and tuned perfectly with the music” (Long Beach Grunion Gazette, 2014). In July of 2012, Campos participated in the three-week long Master Class in Conducting at the Oregon Bach Festival, studying and performing Bach’s St. Matthew Passion under the tutelage of Helmuth Rilling.

Campos graduated from DePauw University where he studied music and economics while participating in honors programs in business management and information technology. While at DePauw, he served as founding Artistic Director of the Schola Cantorum of DePauw, an ensemble that performed over two hundred works ranging from masterworks like the requiems of Mozart and Fauré to newly commissioned works. Their concerts benefited such charities as the American Cancer Society and the Special Olympics. A champion of world music, he received a grant from the ASIANetwork to study Indian Carnatic Music, the result of which was the first ever online database of ragas, composers, and compositions.

Since returning to California, Mr. Campos has worked as a guest conductor and contractor of choirs and orchestras, regularly performing with musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Los Angeles Master Chorale. He has contracted for the Broad Stage, Santa Monica College, Cal State Long Beach, Fullerton, and San Bernardino, and several other local churches and performing organizations. This season Christian will be featured on the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Upbeat Live pre-concert series; in previous seasons he has worked as a score reader at the Hollywood Bowl and lecturer as part of the Student Insiders pre-concert series. Mr. Campos has served on the faculty at Pomona College and the USC Thornton School of Music, where he recently completed his coursework towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
